Oh no! There’s a stain on your new granite countertop! While you might think countertops are impervious to stains, think again. Some foods leave ugly stains on unsealed surfaces and even on sealed counters.
Here are five foods to keep away from your countertop. If you do get a spill, clean it up as soon as possible to avoid staining.

1. Turmeric

This bright yellow spice is popular in cooking. However, it’s also an industrial dye. Turmeric will leave your countertop looking yellow, especially if it comes in contact with water.

2. Coffee

We all love that morning cup of joe, but in our hazy waking moments, we’ve all split coffee grounds on the counter. Clean it up quickly before it leaves a dark brown stain.

3. Red Wine

Red wine stains on the carpet are a nightmare, and they ruin counters as well. Try some baking soda and vinegar to remove the stain.

4. Citrus Fruit

Oranges, lemons, limes, mangoes, and other citrus fruits leave stains on counters. Make sure you clean up after slicing the limes for your mojito.

5. Mustard with Yellow Dye

Hotdog mustards with bright yellow dyes are challenging to remove from surfaces, especially after it sets.
